Shiny new signs popped up around downtown High River over the long weekend and are proving to be very popular with visitors and residents.

The High River History Advisory Board put the project together after getting a grant.

Director of the Highwood Museum Irene Kerr volunteered over 80 hours to do the research.

"I wanted people to be standing looking at the signs and then look up and see what use to be there," said Kerr. "There are still a few buildings that are there, a few are gone. The combination of the two make it really interesting."

She also wanted to tell a bit of a story about something that happened that changed the street.

"It just makes it more interesting. The sign on the west side talks about the Pioneer Square redevelopment."

Another sign talks about the history of the elevators.

Like most prairie towns the elevators are gone and with some help from Bill Holmes they dug up some great pictures from when they were all up.

There are a  few more signs to come and they will be added directly on buildings like the Wales Theatre and the Western Financial Building.
