The Town of Nanton has purchased two downtown lots by the minature museum to address a shortage of parking in the business community.

Mayor Jennifer Handley says council approved the $126,000 purchase at the last meeting.

"Just before Christmas we discussed it," said Handley. "We thought we would hate for those lots to be sold and continue to be vacant and continue to not be used. We constantly hear of the need for more parking in downtown."

The fences should come down soon and signs will be put up, there will be no overnight parking allowed on the lots.

"We want people to know this is for our businesses and their customers."

And for now the lots will remain with a gravel surface.

"It is so expensive to pave, certainly right out of the gates it's going to just be gravel. There has been no conversations about paving at this time."
