A new program is available for High Riverites looking to buy a home.

Owner of Rempel Homes, Les Rempel, says the program is for principle residents who were affected by the flood and have a combined-family income $90,000 or less per year.

"Over this last year, Rempel Homes has been working with Habitat for Humanity and Red Cross to provide a deposit program for people who're looking to buy new homes," he says. "We came up with the idea because there are so many people who've been displaced after the flood, and we had a number of homes we thought we could put onto the program, which would allow for easy purchases for people."

He says the program works by loaning families enough money for a down payment on a house.

"The homes are prices in the range from about $300,000 to about $350,000, so the deposit is a $29,500 value that's put up by Rempel Homes and Red Cross," he says. "After (the five years) it becomes a three per cent, interest-baring mortgage for (the owners)."

He says one person has already been approved for the program, and there are still about four or five homes available.
