Living alone is a new trend in Canada according to new Census data released Wednesday, August 2.

28 per cent of Canadians live alone, surpassing couples with children at 26.5 per cent.

The numbers also show couples without children increased faster than couples with at least one child.

Couples with one kid is at 51.1 per cent, the lowest it's ever been.

The census also says one in three young adults, aged 20-to-34 are still living with their parents, up five per cent from 2001 to 2016, while the number of young people living with families of their own dropped from 49.1 to 41.9 per cent.
