The Town of High River is going to take a longer term look at a neglected roadway in the southeast.

The road at 2 Ave. and 20 St. has garnered its share of complaints about noise, dust and potholes over the years.

Director of Engineering Riley McKerracher says Public Works was able to come up with three options.

He told council at its Monday Sept. 27 meeting they could continue using dust control at a cost of about $6,000 each time they do it, twice a year.

Another option looked at involved a more environmentally friendly product using a starch-based or canola-based product at a cost of anywhere from $11,000 to $20,000/per application.

They landed on using recycled millings and drainage improvements as a more middle-term solution. McKerracher says it should last about three to five years with regular
maintenance and should alleviate the problem with rumble strips naturally occurring there.

Shawne already has a large amount of millings from previous Town projects to use there.

The millings are essentially ground up asphalt.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass and councillor Jamie Kinghorn says the stretch of road is long overdue to be taken care of on a more permanent basis.

Council voted to go with the millings for now but have asked administration to bring back figures to properly pave the road in its current configuration.
