The Town of High River took time out to recognize the volunteers who sit on many council-appointed boards and committees Thursday night.

Tammy Beach was named the Volunteer of the Year and she says helping out brings people together.

"It's important, you know we all need that connection for our insides to work and for us to feel great and all of that and that's the reason I volunteer, to feel that connection," Beach says. "I love to meet new people and lots of the things that I volunteer with, it's great connecting with those adults at the table and lots of times you just make that connection and you've got a new friend for life."

Beach appreciates the honour.

"It is an honour and it is a privilege to be named as Volunteer Of The Year for the Town of High River but I'd like to accept that on behalf of all the volunteers, whether you give an hour a year, an hour a week or an hour a day," she says. "Everybody needs to know that hour makes a huge difference especially in a small community like our own."

A ceremony was held at the Highwood Golf and Country Club to recognize those who give of their time to make a difference in the community.
