The Town of Nanton has decided the Calgary Regional Partnership is not for them.

Mayor Rick Everett says the choice was unanimous among council and comes on the heels of an announcement from the province at the AUMA Convention back in September to morph the CRP into a "Growth Management Board."

"Under the current government direction to become a Growth Management Board, after a lot of discussion among Council, we decided a Growth Management Board is not the direction the Town of Nanton wishes to take, or be part of."

Everett says part of the decision is based on geography, simply because Nanton is what he calls an "outlier" and wouldn't be part of the "core" group like Okotoks or Airdrie.

He also says because the M.D. of Willow Creek is not part of the CRP, it makes sense for Nanton to not be part of it either and instead forge closer ties with the M.D. and communities to the south.
