Claresholm and Nanton RCMP detachments had their hands full following up on several complaints of missing batteries which vanished from multiple oil well sites across the Foothills.

Nanton RCMP found 47 of the missing batteries in Calgary on Tuesday, November 27.

The following day they were able to locate two suspects with the help of Calgary Police Services arresting both.

31 year old Justin Edwin Aaron Dalton and 25 year old Alexandra Mae Smith from Calgary, are now facing multiple charges and are set to appear in Calgary Provincial court on Monday, December 3.

The recovered battery haul is valued at $23,000.

Dalton is facing the following charges:

  • Failure to comply with recognizance (x4)
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x2)
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000 (x2)
  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5,000
  •  Trafficking in property obtained by crime under $5,000

Smith is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x2)
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000 (x2)
  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5,000
  •  Trafficking in property obtained by crime under $5,000
