Because of dryer than normal conditions, the Town of Nanton has moved to water conservation Level 1.

CAO, Kevin Miller, says they're doing this as a precaution in case the hot, dry conditions continue for the rest of summer.

"To be very clear, it's not that we're short now, there is enough water to go around so to speak, and we're not doing any drastic restrictions," he says. "But we do want to reduce the outdoor use of water and reduce the amount of water that's going on lawns, just to help with the conservation effort."

Under a water conservation Level 1, outdoor water use is not permitted; however, residents can water their flowers and gardens by hand.

"We do not want to see the washing of cars, sidewalks, you know the exteriors of buildings, or watering of lawns at this time," Miller says. "And we've also suspended sales of bulk water at our bulk-water station."
