Some good news and some bad from the Nanton Food Bank.

The good - they are down in numbers for people needing the Christmas hampers.

The bad - they are also down in numbers for people adopting families to help out in the holiday season.

Organizer Maureen Goguen said they had 57 hampers last year.

"Over the Christmas season we are going to have 35 hampers that we will be giving out," said Goguen. "It is down actually from last year. We don't have as many people adopted out as last year. I think last year we had 17 adopted out and this year we have seven."

The biggest fundraiser of the year takes place Monday night.

Volunteers with the Nanton Scouts will be hitting the streets for their food bank blitz.

All you have to do is make sure your outside lights are on and a volunteer will stop in and collect your donations.

"We get lots of donations, cash donations and food."

On average right now the food bank is helping 15 families a month.

The boxes for December are handed out around the 14th with the Christmas Dinner boxes going out after the 18th.

Anyone who would like to adopt a family the food for the dinner is already ordered so all you would need to do is add a few extras and some presents.

"They could do gifts or extra stuff like laundry soap. We would give them up to the 18th if they want to adopt somebody."
