Incumbent councillor Dave Mitchell thinks voters in the Nanton municipal election should put serious thought into who they want as a whole team working for their community.

Mitchell says he is seeking a third term to keep up the positive momentum the last council built up over the last four years growing.

Out of the six former councillors Mitchell is one of two who are seeking re-election.

"If the wrong people get in there, it could get derailed," said Mitchell. "Stalling is one thing you can get, paralysis by analysis if you keep going over stuff, but if you get someone in there that is going to derail that momentum, that is the last thing you need happening because we have a lot of positive things going on right now."

Mitchell adds Nanton does have some issues and every town has them.

"There is a process and Nanton has challenged how the process is done and we have had success and people are learning from it."

He says they made changes to how things got done at the Silver Willow Lodge with great success.

And a good example of what he is talking about is the project that put together the new Waste Water Treatment Plant.

It was a big challenge for the last council as they inherited a failing plant that was many years past its replacement date and was being held together with two-by-fours.

Mitchell said outgoing Mayor Rick Everett figured out who they needed from each level of government and got them all to a meeting at the same time.

"Instead of talking to one and talking to another and talking to another he insisted that all three of them were in the room at the same time so they can't go that's not my department. So they are all in the room and we are just people sitting across the table from each other and we did not go in with our hat out, we went in with a plan."

They presented the plan to the government with their research and now they have a new facility that was paid for with grant money from both levels of government.

And they have made plans in future budgets to have the money on hand to replace key pieces of infrastructure as the plant ages.

And Mitchell adds he wants to keep momentum like this going.
