The Town of Nanton is looking for feedback on the proposed Community Standards Bylaw.

A meeting last week had 50 residents come out to talk to council about the bylaw which is updating a few areas of concern, like unsightly yards, noise and a proposed curfew.

Chief operating officer Kevin Miller says there has been a bit of controversy in town about the behaviour parts.

"We have things like no fighting, no spitting," said Miller. "And as it exists, at first reading, for a curfew right now. These pieces seem to be where the controversy exists right now."

While first reading of the bylaw has taken place, council and the committee working on it, will be making changes before it proceeds.

A proposed curfew bylaw, for youth under the age of 18, doesn't seem to have much support in the Town of Nanton.

"We still consider this to be a draft. We are listening, we are hearing the feedback," said Miller.

Mayor Rick Everett says the law enforcement group proposed the curfew part of the bylaw and it probably isn't going to be in the final version.

"The community has been very clear that they don't like the idea of a curfew at all," said Everett. "I didn't hear anybody that was for it."

He also added council is open to making changes to the document, and if needed they will start all over again.

"The committee has a lot of work to do, to look at all the feedback."

The next chance for taxpayers to talk to council about the proposed changes is Monday, April 3, 6 P.M. at the fire hall.
