For the first time in 29 years the Province is looking to update it's labour laws.

High River Chamber of Commerce President Steven Muth says it's about time.

"The review of the labour laws is something that the business community has been lobbying administrations for, for the past 15 years. It's more than overdue that those rules be taken care of."

Muth says he's very concerned over the government's short timeline for consultations, and what he feels will be changes perhaps tipped towards labour.

"Right now in this economy, you would think that it would make sense, especially as inexperienced as most of these Ministers are, seeing how most of them have been pizza delivery people, or political science professors, that they would want to listen to people who own their own businesses. But as of now, they are not."

Among the changes the NDP are hoping to make are guaranteeing sick days and more maternity leave.

However critics worry the NDP will also make regulations regarding unionizing less stringent.
