High River's Justin Murphy is one of two candidates to throw his hat into the ring for the UCP nomination for the Livingstone-Macleod Riding.

Murphy, who lost out in a bid for a seat on High River Town Council in the October 2017 Civic Election says he simply wants to serve.

"I've always had a desire to serve the country and serve in some way, shape or form, whether that's on my local parents council. Whether or not it's on various boards and administrations throughout wherever I've lived in Alberta. To me this is the next logical choice for a progression for myself."

Murphy will square off against Claresholm business owner Roger Reid, who's the only other declared candidate, and says no matter what he's going to keep the campaign civil.

"You know I've talked to a few MLA's and I've talked to a lot of people who have a lot more experience than I do and it's very easy for that nomination process to hit the low road and to many I'm like, either way, whatever I do, I don't want to go down that low road."

Current UCP MLA, Pat Stier, says he won't run in the 2019 Provincial Election.
