The deadline is coming up fast to file the paperwork needed to run for municipal government or the school boards in Alberta and there are a few things to consider.

Nanton Mayor Rick Everett, who is running for his second term, says if you only have one issue to resolve you will find it's not that easy.

"When you join council, if you get elected for council you represent the whole town and everybody in it not one specific group," said Everett.

He adds you need to get thick skin because you can't satisfy everybody all the time.

"You are not going to do it for money. You are doing it because you love your community, you think you can create change in your community, or you can move something forward."

There are also a lot of rules and regulations so you can't just go out and do things.

And it takes a lot of time out of your schedule to attend to all the business council and the mayor looks after.

"We are finishing off the project of the waste water treatment plant, so we have a close out meeting. This will be a second meeting today."

With the Chief Administration officer Kevin Miller, councillor Jennifer Handley and Everett they have spent five to six hours this week alone  just preparing for the meeting.

Sept. 18th at noon is the deadline to file your paperwork, the election is October 16th and the winners will serve a four-year term.
