After a large thunder storm the process begins of assessing the damage.

Bev Carlson, co-owner of Ardiel Agencies, says the first thing someone with damage should do is call their insurance broker.

Carlson says once a broker has been called future losses need to be prevented.

"The first thing they need to do is mitigate any further losses so if it's the roof of your house for instance you need to be able to make sure that what ever's happening no further damage is going to happen as a result of you doing nothing so you have to mitigate further losses, that's the most important thing."

She says no matter the size of the damage it's worth having it assessed.

"It's worth assessing what the damage is, you don't want to be making a claim for something that's only worth a few hundred dollars because that's going to affect your insurance but you do want to assess your damage and see what you've got. Some people have damage that's just a few pings here and there and they can live with it and other people that's a personal decision."

With another severe thunderstorm watch issued on Wednesday, Carlson says any new damage would require a separate claim.
