Mother's Day is a chance to give the women in your life a little extra attention to show how much you appreciate them.

Lisa Sazbon-Smith of High River is looking forward to a quiet day with her daughter Hadley, 3, and her husband Brett.

"Mother's Day for me is a chance to spend day with family and hang out and be lazy," said Sazbon-Smith, who isn't sure about having breakfast in bed but she is hoping for a special meal prepared by her husband.

"He's a master at making pancakes and waffles so hopefully we get that on the menu in the morning.

The family is also looking forward to celebrating a birthday with a nephew so all three generations of her family will be together, making the day a bit more special.

Angela Morris of High River says the day means the world to her.

"I have always wanted to be a mom since I was little and it is a day to celebrate what a mother truly is," said Morris.

The family goes to Calgary and takes part in the Mother's Day Walk and Run, followed by a big brunch afterwards.

"I actually run the 5K and and my husband takes the kids and they walk it."

Their youngest child was in the neonatal unit for a week so this way they can give back.

Morris said the day makes up for the times when you think you're going crazy while raising young children.

"It puts in perspective that they do love you and they do care about you and they do appreciate you."

She has three children a daughter Chloe, 10 and two boys Gaven, 8 and Edwin, 3 with her husband Rob..

Mother's Day can take a different perspective when your kids are grownup.

Jane Russell of High River says spending time together with her daughter Courtney and granddaughter Emy, daughter Melissa and son David is always special.

"I think that spending time with your kids on Mother's Day is the most important thing," said Russell. "I don't want gifts, I don't want a lot of stuff, I just want to be with them and have some fun."

She adds spending time with her daughter and granddaughter adds to the day, and reminds her of how she did the same with her own mother.

And they do try to get in a pedicure together.
