The sound of music seems to fill Olde Towne Plaza since the installation of the outdoor piano.

Due to the success of this initiative, Artur Gieck, owner of the Calgary Piano House who donated the piano, is donating another which will call inside of the Okotoks Recreation Centre home.

Allan Boss, culture and heritage manager with the Town of Okotoks, says it'll play a role in a local event.

"For Alberta Culture Days this year at the end of September we're going to be placing it at the Rec Centre so it'll be available for people to play."

Earlier in Sept. the Okotoks Arts Council will hold a paint the piano contest where they have a $250 prize for the winning design. The winning artist will paint their design on the piano and unveil their masterpiece at the end of Sept.

Boss says there's plans for a Picnic in the Park concert to wrap up the first season with the outdoor piano.

"We've got four pianists and some signers, some bluegrass, jazz, and classical, and we'll be doing that concert from 1 to 3 o'clock at the Plaza," he says. "People can come and bring their picnic lunches on a Sunday afternoon and enjoy some great music before we take the piano and put it away for the winter."

Picnic in Park is set for Sept. 27. More details will be made available about the Paint the Piano contest as the information is released.
