Roadways will be more accessible than ever heading in from the east end of Okotoks.

Town Council approved the connection of Milligan Drive to 48th Street during Tuesday's meeting.

Mayor Bill Robertson says accessibility was key in approving the connection.

"One of the things to allow better access to the east side of Okotoks would be opening up 48th street on to Milligan Drive," he says. "Right now it comes to a T intersection, we would be negotiating that opening with the M.D. of Foothills because it would affect their residents in particular along with ours."

He says the connection would alleviate pressure from other main roadways in town.

It would allow egress from the Town of Okotoks out on to 48th, it would also allow then ingress off acreage owners to the east of Okotoks would be able to come in down Milligan Drive."

Robertson hopes that those coming from the east side of town will be able to use the roadways to help get them to certain locations without veering off the main drag too much.

"Somebody living just east of Okotoks, just east of Milligan Drive has to drive down to north railway street and access the town that way or go up to 32nd or 338 and come in that way, he says. "This will open it up so people can access Milligan Drive to get to say the Okotoks Recreation Centre in a direct route."

The town will meet with the M.D. to further discuss the plans of the Milligan to 48th Street connection.
