The MD of Foothills has approval from the province to go ahead with three flood modelling projects.

Alberta Environment and Parks have approved a budget of $123,000 to fund the work.

Harry Riva-Cambrin, municipal manager with the MD, says it will help with planning and responses to future flood situations.

One project includes additional flood modelling work on the Highwood River, South of Alderysyde and the area around 72nd street east.

A study will be done of the George Groeneveld bridge, including looking at the design of the structure and erosion protection.

A report will also be prepared to look at what should be done when agricultural properties are negatively affected by flood mitigation projects built to protect the Town of High River.

A portion of the $2 million was used to complete a Scoping Study of Flood Related Areas of Concern on the Highwood River and Little Bow River within the MD of Foothills.

The study expanded to include the MD of Willow Creek and Vulcan County down to the Twin Valley Reservoir.
