Some potential downstream effects on the Highwood and Little Bow Rivers after the Town of High River's flood mitigation measures have been determined.

Foothills MD Mayor Larry Spilak says they needed to look out for residents living outside the town.

"After the 2013 flood the MD of Foothills retained the services of AMIC and the Worley Parsons group to complete the scoping study of flood related areas of concern on the Highwood River and the Little Bow River,  and the MD of Foothills is moving toward a consultation process with the landowners with property along the Highwood and Little Bow rivers," he says/

A pair of open houses have been set for the Highwood Memorial Centre in High River.

For those north of the town, it'll be held Thursday May 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. and for those south of the town, on Monday May 30, again, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Spilak has said in the past he wants to make sure landowners who might be adversely affected by what the town has done are taken care of, or at least compensated if there is a future high water event.
