Okotoks Town Council has approved upgrades for 100 Milligan Drive, the strip across from the Okotoks Rec Centre.

The strip currently houses the Mac convenience store and the Owl's Nest Pub.

Tanya Thorn, town councillor, says the building will be getting quite the makeover.

"They brought forward a new look and feel to the building. They're going to make some changes to that far bay on the west end inside and split it into two things I think," she says. "I think there'll be a restaurant on the end and I believe there might be pharmacy that's looking to go into the other bay."

The area is a Direct Control District which means any changes had to be brought forward to council for approval instead of the Municipal Planning Commission.

Thorn says she's looking forward to seeing businesses get freshened up.

"I think it's a great thing and that building's been in town as long as I've lived here and seen lots of different things cycle through so I think the new look and feel is something that we're looking to do or see done with a lot of the buildings in our downtown core that have been around for a while so yeah I think it's fabulous."

There's no word yet on when work will officially begin.
