Prices at the pump of late have motorists grinning from ear to ear as prices in some areas of the Foothills are as low as $0.78 a litre.

But prices might fluctuate in some aspects but it won't be too hard of a grind watching the metre at the pumps.

Senior Petroleum Analyst at GasBuddy.com Dan McTeague says the price of fuel is really low at the at the retail value right now.

"Retailers who have to buy gasoline for $0.80 can't very well turn around and sell it for 0.81 or 0.82 they'll lose their shirts and they've been in that position for over a week and a half," he says. "So what you have here is retail margins being restored, pushed up from $0.11 in some cases."

McTeague says not to worry for those thinking prices will hike in the near future.

"The markets are not strong enough for gasoline there's nothing out there suggestion any justification for a bump at the wholesale level if you wait around for Monday and Tuesday the prices will likely be right back where they are today barring any type of event among commodity traders."

The price of gasoline could go up as high at $0.91 in the next couple of days but McTeague says the price of gasoline should eventully sit around just south of $0.90 a litre for the next little stretch.

"I think the happy-medium for prices right now is about $0.87 that's with the retailer picking up 5 or 6 cents a litre enough to cover the cost to turn on their lights and paying for the credit card uses that we use when we go there all things considered."
