Voters in the village of Longview may just get to do it all again.

CAO of the village, Dale Harrison says Carole MacLeod, one of the three candidates who won the October 16 municipal election, decided to step down just after the organizational meeting .

"With the Election Act we can't fall back on picking the last person who ran, we had four person run-off for three places so we have to go back and start from scratch with a by-election, with nominations and advance votes and ballots and all the rest of it, just like a real election," Harrison says. "Nominations, we've got the date set for Thursday the 9th of November, same as the general election, it's between 10 o'clock and Noon on the 9th, then if required, if we have more than one person running for the single position available, then we would have the election four weeks, or a little more than four weeks later on December 11th."

He says there would be an Advance Poll on Saturday November 25th.

Harrison says it does throw a bit of a wrench into the works.

"It slows things down a bit, once you get into election season you kind of get things put on hold," Harrison says. "We had several decisions from the previous council meetings that were tabled for the new council to deal with and I would normally start to shift to looking at the finances and the budget to get that stuff ready for the end of the year. I can start some of that work but I can't really go over it with just a two-person council."

He says if they do have to hold a vote December 11th the results wouldn't be made official until four days later December 15th and the next regular council meeting would be held December 19th.
