Over 10,000 people took part in the 52nd annual Scotiabank Calgary Marathon and a couple of Nanton residents stood out.

Andrea Glover of Nanton won the women's event with a time of 3:02:14.

And Nanton native Chris Koch, born with no arms or legs, finished the marathon on a longboard in 4:23:12

Glover says she was glad to see Koch finish the event.

"He was there ands we chatted and I got a picture with him and I was just so amazed with his accomplishment, it was unbelievable," Glover says. "I just am so proud of him and that was really cool and I said to his mom 'Pretty good showing for Nanton."

"The Scotiabank Calgary Marathon is healthy competition at its best. It is where people of all ages and abilities come together to push their perceived limits and achieve greatness, where ordinary folk run the same race and cross the same finish line as the best runners in the country and some of the fastest in the world," said Kirsten-Ellen Fleming, Executive Director, Scotiabank Calgary Marathon. "This event celebrates community, charitable giving and the spirit of Calgary and we are proud of what the 10,000 runners achieved today after months of sacrifice and training."

Meantime Black Diamond's Dave Proctor did a little running of his own.

He ran on treadmill at the Big Four Building on the Stampede grounds for 24 hours chalking up over 264 kilometres.

He and others raised $75,000 for MitoCanada which supports families impacted by mitochondrial disease.
