A focus on local writing talent is just what the Nanton's Chinook Singers and Players and Neighbourhood Players were searching for - and found.

The groups are presenting An Evening of One Acts on May 4 and 5, and two of them were written by local playwrights.

Shea Christie, who wrote Phobia's, a tale of a singles mixer for folks with phobias, said the group was looking for a bit of a fresh start.

President Sue Moore was looking for fresh fresh talent, including local writers, directors and actors.

"It is the first time I get to see it actually onstage, from what I had in my head and what I had put down on paper."

He is looking forward to seeing how an audience reacts to the production.

"Good or bad, and just get some feedback, on what people thought and what their views were if they liked it, if they didn't and even what I can do to improve it."

The second play features local playwright Helen Friesen's play Angel Unaware about unresolved childhood resentments, a parent passing and an angel putting it all together.

The third play has been performed by the group before, The Mice Have Been Drinking Again, but Moore thought the audience would enjoy seeing it one more time.

The performances will be held at A.B. Daley School at 7:30 p.m. on May 4 and 5.
