With the Unity Deal now approved by both Alberta's Opposition Wildrose Party and the Progressive Conservative Party, it's time to get down to work.

Livingstone-Macleod MLA Pat Stier, who worked on the original agreement to merge, says he's looking forward to this change.

"I'm excited for all of our members who will now have a unique, grassroots opportunity to fully participate in the formulation of our new policy and constitution process. it will get underway quite shortly."

Both parties memberships voted 95 percent in favour of becoming one, although turnout for the vote for the Wildrose members was 57% and the PC party was at 55%.

Stier says the votes were interesting, but not a surprise.

"While it was kind of interesting that both of them came in at the same rate at 95%, it certainly didn't surprise me that Wildrose supported this idea as much as they did."

Stier says he is looking forward to being part of the grassroots that sets up the new United Conservative Party.

Stier and his colleagues will meet on Monday to begin to strategize for the fall session, and after working together for the past few months it should be a very easy transition.
