Literacy for Life's Grate Groan Up Spelling Bee fundraiser is back for it's fourth year.

The event creates awareness for supporting literacy at all ages in the Foothills through Lit for Life's programming.

Pam Guthrie-Fleming, event organizer, says the fundraiser is a fun way to promote literacy.

"It's a ridiculous amount of fun and basically adults and teams of three go up on stage and try to spell words, that nobody was ever built to spell, and make fools of themselves and have a good time doing it."

Teams are also encouraged to dress up in costume.

Guthrie-Fleming says this year the bee has linked up with another fun event.

"We have combined the bee with our art and culture days and the Global Cardboard Challenge, so we encourage everyone to bring their pre-made cardboard creations to the bee to be judged for a prize and we'll also have facilities to make cardboard creations at the bee."

The Global Cardboard Challenge was started by the Imagination Foundation to encourage creativity in children and how communities can help to support it.

A raffle will also be taking place where someone could be taking home $5,000 worth of Air Canada gift cards.

The event takes place Oct. 1 at the Wales Theatre.
