Cold weather didn't stop volunteers from turning George Lane Park into a winter wonderland on the weekend.

Every year the Christmas light display gets a little bit bigger and a whole lot brighter.

Organizer Ted Dawson says there is a lot of excitement for one of their brand new attractions this year.

"This year we are adding, thanks to cooperation of the Town and the Kinsmen Club, a skating rink on the ball diamond in George Lane Park," said Dawson.

He adds Canadian Tire, Lutes Timber Mart, Home Hardware and the Kinsmen, Rotary, and Lions have all made the project possible.

"This is the first year so right now we are juggling, okay is it going to be round or square or some kind of weird and wonderful shape."

They will have patio lights to light up the area.

Fortis helped out to put the lights in place on the tall trees on the October 28th weekend so this last weekend volunteers were putting up the ground displays.

"Once everything is in place we will start our tests for circuit breakers and hopefully after Remembrance Day we will be able to get the lights started up."

The official Light Up George Lane Park event is December 1st, just before the Santa Claus Parade at 5 p.m.

The Lions Club of High River will be on hand with hot dogs and hot chocolate and The Rotary Club of High River will have light wands for the first 1,000 children.

There will also be a chance to meet Elsa, Anna and Olaf along with other activities before lights are turned on.
