Alberta Education and the Alberta Teachers' Association have approved the proposed Kindergarten to Grade Four curriculum.

The curriculum focuses on rewriting all of the core subjects in order to make them complement one another.

Alberta Education stressed transparency during the rewrite process, making the curriculum available to the public in October.

The Government of Alberta turned to residents to provide feedback on the proposed curriculum, receiving responses from over 100,000 people.

In their release, the Alberta Government provided a statement from Minister of Education, David Eggen:

“Our government is fulfilling its promise to develop and deliver a modernized Kindergarten to Grade 12 provincial curriculum. Field-testing future curriculum in the classroom is an important part of our process and it helps to ensure that what looks good on paper also makes sense in the classroom. We will continue to work with our education partners and stakeholders to ensure that future curriculum is ready for students in a timely matter.”

A new curriculum for Grades 5-9 will be proposed in December of 2019, With grades 10-12 being proposed from December 2020-2022.
