After 78 days of campaigning, John Barlow came out on top in the Foothills riding, keeping his seat in the House of Commons.

Barlow says he's thrilled to have held onto his seat.

John Barlow finished with 75% of the vote in the riding.

"I think this says a lot about the Foothills riding. The entire campaign we were talking about strong, local representation and I think that resignated quite loudly in this campaign. The people wanted somebody who was from here, somebody who knew the issues, knew the community, and knew the people of Foothills."

Barlow says despite the PC's role in government changing to the Official Opposition, his priorities are staying the same.

"The people of Foothills are my top priority and that's always the case," he says. "Obviously the job becomes a little bit different in terms of trying to get things done and it's going to be a different perspective that way, but it doesn't change how I do my job. My job is to be here as often as I can and be as accessible as I possibly can and work for the priorities of the Foothills."

In the brand new Bow River riding, east of Highway 2, which includes Vulcan County, former Brooks Mayor Martin Shields took the riding for the Tory's winning by a wide margin.

Federally, The Liberals have formed a majority government with over 180 seats.
