The year 2016 was rough on plenty of Albertans when it came to jobs and the lack there of due to the economic downturn felt at all industries but there might be some light at the end of the tunnel to at least start off 2017.

When it comes to local jobs there's been a slight jump in wanted ads.

Regional Manager at McBride Career Group in Okotoks Amber Chapman says they seen more and more job opportunities appear on their desks.

"We are starting to see an increase for job postings for sure," she says. "More so in the Okotoks area, perhaps employers are now prepared to start hiring as it's the new year."

Chapman says some of the jobs she has seen are seasonal opportunities like greenhouses or golf courses who start their hiring processes early but there are full-time spots available.

"Some of them certainly are survival positions but certainly some are within their field so overall we're starting to see some positive movement in the labour market."

She says if it's been a grind to find a full-time position you might want to try a part-time job and see where it leads to in one's field of expertise.

"Part-time opportunities are always something to consider, it certainly helps subsidize the income coming into the home but what we have seen often is positions that start part-time do often increase into full-time jobs."
