High River has a new town council.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass was sworn in by Senator Scott Tannas and then the Mayor swore in each of the councillors.

Mayor Snodgrass says, in contrast to the previous council that was elected just months after the flood, this council has some time to catch its breathe and move at a more reasonable pace.

"We've got seven individuals that are committed to this town for the right reasons cross the board so there's no personal interests or anything. It's all to do with making the decisions for the greater good of the community so I'm excited," he says. "It's a whole different feeling this round than it was in 2013, of course we had chaos staring us right in the face and ready to beat us up, and that it did, but got through it, got through it well, High River looks great and now's the time where we can really move this place forward in a great way."

Jamie Kinghorn is back on council after a four year hiatus and is glad to be there.

"I'm on virtually the same committees that I was on back in 2012 - 2013 so I'm excited to be back working with those people on things like recreation, and the airport of course and the museum," Kinghorn says.

Carol MacMillan says she's looking forward to getting involved.

"I think first off to learn from this very dynamic team really excites me and the whole support group here is amazing so I'm really looking forward to that as well as the continuous learning curve," she says. "I'm being very realistic to know it'll take a good year to feel that confidence of learning and doing, but I'm really excited and very happy about the boards I was appointed to as well so that means a lot."

The new council's first regular meeting comes up November 13, 2017.
