Fire Prevention Week starts Sunday.

The Fire Prevention Officer with the High River Fire Department, Clayton Rutberg says it's all about getting out safely in a fire.

"This year our focus, kind of our theme is Every Second Counts, Plan Two Ways out," he says. "So it's the focus cross North America for Fire Prevention Week."

Rutberg says it's important to sit down as a family and figure out escape routes and a place to meet in case there's a fire.

He says that includes knowing where the exits are in hotels or public buildings while you're out.

"Whether it's going to a hotel, going to the library to read some books, taking that few seconds, taking that look around to see where the exits are, gives you that awareness in case something were to happen," Rutberg says. "It's something that's always good to practice because you're somewhere that's not familiar, you never know when something happens in the middle of the night, you're going to do what's natural and what you've seen."

He says members of the Fire Department will be out visiting schools talking to children about safety and doing their regular contest and trying get the message out to as many people as they can.
