High River RCMP Sergeant Brent Hawker said earlier this week there were no major incidents on local roads on the Labour Day weekend.

But provincially that wasn't the case.

Alberta RCMP say this past Labour Day weekend, eight people died and 18 were injured in motor vehicle collisions compared to two deaths and 49 hurt on the Labour Day in 2016.

Last year the long weekend saw six motorcyclists injured while this year one was killed and four injured.

Forty-six impaired driving charges were laid this year and another 27 investigations remain open while last year there were 90 impaired charges laid.

RCMP are reminding motorists to share the road and be mindful in school and playground zones.
