If you're thinking about running in the October's Muncipal Election in High River, there's a few things you should know before you get started.

Manager of Legislative Services and Returning Officer for the Town of High River, Kara Rusk, says due to changes to the Local Authorities Election Act, the nomination process has changed for the upcoming election.

“Individuals interested in running for Mayor or Council must file an application with the Town before accepting any funds towards an election campaign,” Rusk said.

To help understand the process a new information package is now available for potential candidates.

The package will help to clarify Mayor and Council roles and responsibilities, discuss the difference between Council and administration, and outline the time commitment candidates can expect if they are elected.

The new information package is very detailed and will provide potential candidates with a realistic understanding of what they can expect if they choose to run.

You can pick up a new information package at the Town Office or you can download it from the Town's website.

Nomination forms must be filed before noon on Monday, September 18.
