A tribute is taking place for a man well known in Okotoks and the local sports community.

The event is taking place in Cochrane as a way to thank Jim 'Bearcat' Murray and acknowledge all the work he's done for local communities.

Event Organizer Dan Croffit, says it would be great to have representation from the Foothills at the tribute.

"I'd love to be able to look in the room and have all the people from Okotoks stand up and show their support for Bearcat. He's turning 85-years-old and I think it's time that we acknowledge him and recognize him for all the great things he's done," Croffit explains. "This is a guy who'd made quite a difference in the community and he's done it at his own expense, he certainly hasn't lined his pockets over the years being a volunteer and being involved in so much."

The event will feature guest speakers and include dinner.

Croffit says funds from the evening will go towards supporting a good cause.

"We actually are doing a fundraiser as well to support a local group of ladies who are trying to open a crisis centre for women so there will be a live auction going on as well."

The tribute will take place Friday, April 27 at the RancheHouse in Cochrane at 6 p.m.

Those wanting to attend can register by calling (403)850-1001.
