More commercial construction in High River is a good sign the economy may be on the rebound in our neck of the woods.

With the new strip mall being built on 12th Avenue and 1st Street East and the old Shoppers Drug Mart location on Centre Street and 2nd Avenue being turned into a furniture store, High River Chamber of Commerce President, Steven Muth says things like that keep people and jobs here.

"That's hopefully keeping people in our town. We're not going to Okotoks. We're not going to Calgary to source those products. So hopefully we plug some more of those gaps. So that's very, very encouraging."

Muth says seeing projects like this creates a "herd mentality" that usually spurs more new businesses moving into either existing spaces or building their own.
