Plenty of people included Candy Cane Lane in front of the High River hospital in their Christmas light tours this holiday season.

Fund Development Officer with the High River and District Healthcare Foundation, Cathy Couey says the "Points of Light" fundraiser did well again this year.

"We are up a little bit from last year," she says. "Last year we raised just over $16,000 and so we're up about $2,500, so again considering the world we're living in and the economic times, we are absolutely thrilled that that outcome."

Donors are able to buy a light in memory of someone special in their lives.

She says the money will be used by the Palliative and Spiritual Care programs at the hospital and in the community.

Couey says a number of people gave their thanks to health care workers while driving by to look at the display.

Some people are leaving their lights on for awhile just to buoy spirits during a difficult time, but Couey says the Elves at the hospital took advantage of the Chinook to take the decorations down.
