Two High River families have a place to call home.

Habitat for Humanity presented keys on a rather cold day, but Kyle and his family will be nice and toasty in their new home that they helped build.

"We got to build our house, we had to put in 500 of our own hours into the house to actually get into it, so we got to learn a lot about our own place."

Kyle says, "we're really just excited and thankful, it's a huge opportunity that they're giving to us."

Marilyn Boake, Habitat for Humanity Chapter Chair says, the hard work was completed by community partners, volunteers and the families as well.

Janice and her husband with their four children were the beneficiaries of the other home and were overwhelmed as well.

"We're so excited and the kids too, we feel so blessed to have this house," she said.

Boake says, both families worked tirelessly to get into their new home.

"Another really interesting part of the Habitat program," Boake says, "the mortgage payments that are generated from this duplex will go back into the build pot and will enable us to help two more families in the future," she says.

It's been the mission of Habitat for Humanity to make affordable home ownership possible, breaking the cycle of poverty.

Boake says Habitat for Humanity will be in a position to select a family from the Foothills area again in 2017.
