Children will still be able to enjoy the magic of Halloween this year, although it may look different than year's past.

Highwood MLA, RJ Sigurdson, says Halloween will happen, however, it will be a different experience.

"There's no way that we're canceling Halloween. I think it's safe to say that it's going to look a little bit different this year," he said.

He says what has been learned about COVID-19 will be applied to making recommendations to keep everyone safe, however, it is still important for the tradition to go on.

"We'll take a lot of what we've learned so far and understand the ways it's transmitted and try to mitigate those risks. But I want to be clear in saying that there's no way we're going to be canceling Halloween. It brings neighborhoods and communities closer together," said Sigurdson.

Sigurdson says residents will have to be more vigilant in light of COVID-19 by following guidelines to limit possible transmission.

"Everybody has to assume that personal responsibility to limit the spread, and make sure that we do everything that we can to protect our children," he said

According to Sigurdson, Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw will be announcing recommendations for how to celebrate Halloween safely in the days to come.
