Several units of the High River RCMP were involved in a high speed pursuit of a white GMC 4x4 pick up truck Friday evening at around 8PM.

The vehicle was one of two suspected stolen by the driver who had allegedly brandished a machete in the process.

The suspect led police through fields, fences and residential properties until the pursuit finally came to an end in a muddy field at 176 Street and 402 Avenue just Northeast of High River.

Home owner Louanne Twa says she and her husband were outside talking on their property when she saw the pursuit headed her way.

"We saw the cop cars on the next range road and then we realized they were actually chasing him through the fields. It was about 30 or 40 minutes back and forth and all of a sudden they headed through a stubble field then the truck went through two fences there and then went south and went through two more fences and came up on the road."

She says there is extensive property damage.

"He went around our shop and back through my fence driving south through two more fences then turned around coming back through the fence and came up to the house."

She says she was surprised the suspect didn't drive into her house or any vehcles parked on her property.

"We realized he was coming towards us so thought he would just keep driving along the road but turned went right through our two gates into our hay yard and as soon as he did we ran into the house and locked the doors."

There was extensive damage to the truck as well as some police vehicles involved in the pursuit.

RCMP continue their investigation.
