The High River Scouts are getting ready for their biggest trip of the summer, they won't have to travel far as the COVID-19 pandemic has forced all members of the scout's troop away from any scouts campground.

Group Commissioner for the High River Scouts Derek Rowe says the scouts have been doing as much as they can to keep the kids connected during this time

"We've been doing some virtual meetings since this whole thing began, We've done three so far and we have some more to go, It's usually things like cooking challenges using tin foil, show and tell or mad-libs just things to keep the friendships going within the groups and we find that really important."

Rowe says with all the scout camps closed until august 31st they've had to cancel a few of their trips, however, they are getting set to do more online in June.

"In June we are doing our first big Zoom celebration, we've gotten a lot of input from the Calgary groups on how they are handling things. As a world organization everyone is coming up with these great ideas on how to do "Virtual Camping" and we are going to try and do that online and just have fun with it, and just bring out the joy in the youth and bring everyone together.

Rowe says they are getting set for their first dip into Virtual Camping soon.

"It would be setting up the tent outside or in your living room and then everyone that is part of that zoom meeting would do the same with their grown-up and say "this is how we set up our camping spot" and share it with the group.

The Scouts want to remind everyone that Scouting is everywhere just like in the scouts being prepared is half the battle.
