A call to bring together Emergency Management and Emergency Social Services was presented to delegates at last week's Alberta Urban Municipalities Convention by High River.

Councillor Jamie Kinghorn says it received overwhelming support.

"It's under two different ministries and we're going to lobby the government, or now AUMA is going to lobby the government to bring those together," Kinghorn says. "There's a lot of support for it, the resolution passed with 95.8 per cent of the group, so there's a lot of support by the rest of the communities."

He says the move would enhance coordination and eliminate duplication making the process smoother for those recovering after a disaster.

Kinghorn says High River was affected by the flood in 2013, and Slave Lake and Wood Buffalo by wildfires and predications are there'll be more of those types of events in the future somewhere so it's important that the government make changes before the next disaster hits.
