The weather made for no excuse for people to get out and take part in the Remembrance Day ceremonies in High River Friday morning.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says it was no surprise that the Memorial Centre was packed to capacity.

"High River and the area is pretty good with Remembrance Day, it's always packed and standing room only and it always means a lot to these guys."

Foothills MP John Barlow says it's a time to remember those who fought for our freedom some of whom are in our own families.

"My grandmothers brother was just twenty years old when he was shot down over the Mediterranean as a Wellington bomber pilot so as a family we've done a lot more research on him so that's been a personal connection for me."

Sergeant of Arms Bob Collins says it doesn't matter who you are or where you serve it's one big family.

"It's fantastic, it doesn't matter what unit you are we've got pride on each unit and as a group it's pretty hard to beat."

He says it means a lot to see people come out especially the younger generation.

Collins led a parade back to the High River Legion where they held an open house and served up homemade chili and hot dogs for lunch at no cost.
