Starting Monday, August 13, the Town of High River will be looking to complete the finishing touches on the Happy Trails along the south side of 12th Avenue from Montrose to Highwood High School.

480 metres of new pathway will link 5th Street S.E. to 10th street S.E., connecting a host of housing, retail stores and the high school, and improving mobility around the area.

Engineering inspector with the Town of High River, Alexa Levair says the completion of this stretch of the Happy Trails will improve the walkability of High River.

"This marks an important milestone in our community for moving High River forward as a walkable community. With the completion of this section, residents will be able to walk, bike, in-line skate, whatever alternate mode of transportation they prefer, to the stores, businesses, parks, school and homes located on the south side of 12th Avenue.”

Levair says one of the goals of the pathway, was to give students a more commutable path to the school.

"It will make the commute for students a little bit easier this year, now that they will have a path to follow rather than the current goat trail."

The Town plans to have most of the pathway wrapped up by the end of August, with everything completed and cleaned up by the beginning of September.
