High River Minor Soccer is scoring goals on and off the field.

This year the league held their very first food drive and collected enough non-perishable foods to fill a half tonne truck.

Head Coordinator of the league Trudi Andres says the food drive was a team effort.

"So it was the parents and the players of High River Minor Soccer, plus our wonderful secretary Melanie Witteman decided that she would step up and pick everything up each night and also our photographer Ian Whitworth from IWF photography was also willing to let that happen at our picture nights."

Each picture night the teams that were getting their photo taken brought in their donations for the High River Food Bank, an idea that was brought up by a new board member.

Andres says being able to give back to the community is huge for them.

"I mean we are there trying to support our youth and in order to be able to support our youth we need to provide other services as well. So one of those things was to do the food bank and some of our players probably needed that this year so I think just being able to help each other out is huge for our community."

The league consists of 35 to 40 teams from the ages of U-4 to U-16.
