Boston Pizza in High River was chock-full of caped and masked crusaders Friday afternoon for the United Way Heroes Luncheon.

Local businesses were helping to raise funds for the United Way and Debbie-Layn MacLeod of United Way says every nickle raised in High River stays in High River.

"It goes to help, support and further the cause of many worthwhile agencies, initiatives and programs."

Among the local businesses that were involved in the fundraising were Western Financial bringing in the most money at just over $1,000.

Marion Bentz of the United Way adds Western Financial brought in the most money by doing their own fund raiser.

"They had their own fundraiser and took the excess funds and chose the United Way to be the recipient of those excess funds and it is a great gift to us."

She says High River always steps up to the plate when asked to contribute in any way.

"There were several businesses that did a variety of fundraising events internally, Boston Pizza has graciously stepped up again to host the Heroes Week Luncheon."

In all, just over $2,000 was raised for the luncheon by other businesses including Foothills Snaps, High River Veterinary, RBC High River, The Town of High River, MD of Foothills and Coco Lux.
