The Town of High River has installed “No Parking” signs along 4 Avenue Southwest between MacLeod Trail and 1 Street downtown, to ensure drivers are not blocking traffic and are parking only in the legally designated areas.

The Town's designed 4 Avenue with pedestrians in mind and it's not meant to be a major thoroughfare across downtown.

The street does not run in a straight line and has a slight jog in it to slow down vehicles driving through there to increase pedestrian safety.

Many drivers are inadvertently parking in a driving lane, causing a safety hazard.

Effective immediately, Town of High River bylaw officers and RCMP will be enforcing the new "no parking" areas and ticketing vehicles that are illegally parked.

Tickets will cost no less than $50 and could be up to $100.

Vehicles in violation may also be towed, with all costs to be paid by the owner.

And because the no parking areas are well marked now with signs, town council says there will be no warning tickets issued.

Fourth Avenue has limited parking (highlighted in red on the attached map) to access businesses and drivers are encouraged to park in the following alternate areas:

Public parking lots:

o    Behind the municipal office on Macleod Trail
o    Expanded parking lot beside the Museum of the Highwood
o    Corner of 1 Street and 6 Avenue S.W.
o    Corner of 1 Street and Macleod Trail S.W.

Street parking on 3, 5 and 6 Avenues S.W., as well as Macleod Trail and 1 Street S.W.
