A six part digital spin off series for the well-known show, "Heartland" was filmed here in Okotoks last summer, and has now been officially released.

Scott Lepp, Owner of Iylond Entertainment and one of two Executive Producers of "Hudson," says the series was meant to give viewers a different outlook on Heartland.

"The purpose of it was to expand the world of Heartland, and to give our viewers a chance to better learn about the town of Hudson. High River, where Heartland is filmed, and Okotoks share some similarities, so I found those similarities within our town, and wanted to use them for new views. One of the similarities, of course, is the river, so we focused on that," he said.

Lepp says projects of this kind have a positive impact on our community.

"I try to bring all of my projects to film in Okotoks, because iIjust believe in bringing that type of economic impact to the town. I want to continue to keep it on the radar of our town and the council, so when opportunities for filming and having shows present themselves to the town, that they're familiar with it. Even though these are very small projects, it gives you a really good idea of what kind of an impact they can have," he said.

Lepp adds the response from fans since Hudson was officially released on March 31st, has been overwhelming.

"The reaction has been so positive. It makes me so happy. People are just loving seeing our main character, Jade, played by Madison Cheeatow, who's from the series Heartland, in a different setting, with new friends. Something that can appeal to a teenage audience, whereas Heartland appeals to a very broad audience," he said.

All six episodes are available now for viewing on the free CBC Gem streaming service, and Lepp encourages viewers to leave feedback on the show.

Lepp is an Okotoks resident of about ten years, and also filmed "Ice Blue" in Okotoks.
